Enlisted as a private in Company G, 13th Tennessee Cavalry, USA on September 24, 1863 but was apparently conscripted into the CS service on 5 February 1864 at Richmond, Virginia. Deserted 22 February 1864 near Harrisonburg, Virginia. Mustered into Company 'G', 13th Tennessee Cavalry, USA April 6, 1864 as a Private and promoted to 1st lieutenant June 1, 1864. Discharged June 1, 1865. He reenlisted in Company 'L', June 19, 1865. Discharged September 5, 1865.
