George Bristo Yeager, Jr. was born to George Bristo and Vencie Shrivers Yeager on August 31, 1921. He went to be with his Lord May 1, 2015 at the age of 93.

He was a devout Christian man, having devoted his life to serving the Lord and the First United Methodist Church of Bay City, Texas. He became a member in 1937 and served in many capacities, including: Lay Leader, Sunday-School teacher, member of the Men's Wesley Bible Class, and served on the building committee for the present church sanctuary.

George graduated from Bay City High School in 1939 and joined the work force at Western Auto, until 1942. At that time he began his career as a sub clerk with the US Post Office.

In 1942, while working at the Post Office, George enlisted in the US Naval Reserves and was called to service in 1943. He served his country during World War II as a Lt. J.G., flying F6F Hellcats from the Naval Carrier U.S.S. Shangri-la, stationed in the Pacific Theater.

After basic training and receiving his commission, George came home on leave and married Dorothy Margerum, from Palacios, Texas, September 4, 1944. She has been a loving and devoted wife for 70 years.

When the war ended, George and Dorothy made their home in Bay City and he went back to his job at the Post Office. There he continued for thirty-five years and retired as Postmaster, September 9, 1977.

George contributed many hours of service to the community. He was active in Little League and the Lion's Club. He was a loyal friend who was always ready to lend a helping hand. His motto was, "Help Somebody today."

He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, quilting, and embroidering. With Dorothy, they created many beautiful quilts. He also enjoyed planting trees and building fences.
The most important thing in life to George was his family. His happiest times were spent fishing with his son, George Robert, working with daughter, Vencie Dee and her horses, or just sitting and quilting with Dorothy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Vencie Yeager, and sisters, Janice Sailor, and Jean Hadley.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, proud son, George Robert, loving daughter Vencie Dee, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to convey special thanks to Amy Keffer, MD, Mark Schnee, MD, Gina Hinman and Houston Hospice of El Campo, especially Marie and Linda, for their loving care helping Goerge along his journey as he fought the good fight and continued his faith in reaching his heavenly home.

Friends may register at the funeral home from 9AM until 5PM Monday, May 4, 2015. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Russ Munch officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bobby Margerum, Kevin Margerum, Tripp Chenault, Jay Chenault, Robbie Chenault and Joe M. Yeager. Honorary pallbearers will be Tillman Daniel, MD, Dwight Hadley, Chris Hartsfield, Tom Fields, Lamar Evans and Mike Mariner.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the First United Methodist Church of Bay City or to Houston Hospice-El Campo; 1102 N. Mechanic; El Campo, TX 77437.
