Gomes Alice Dorothy Gomes entered peacefully into rest in Hayward on March 28, 2008. She was 85 years of age. Born in San Jose on July 2, 1922, Alice was a devoted mother and grandmother who was loved by all. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper and billing clerk for Montgomery Ward and later as a bookkeeper at Bank of the West. Alice was devoted to her Catholic faith and attended mass at St. John's everyday she was able. She was a member of the St. Gerard Women's Club, the Columbian Ladies, the YLI, the Legion of Mary, and the Rosary Makers of America. Making rosaries was her passion, having made and given away nearly 2000 of them all over the world. Alice loved to travel and was an excellent seamstress. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. Alice is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Kathleen and Larry Blyth of Hayward and Ceilia and Brad Roseborough of Riverside; sister in law, Roseline Lewis of Lockford, Ca; brother-in-law, Vincent Catania of San Jose; grandchildren, David, Debra, Dena, Daniel, and Brandon; great grandchildren, Jennifer, Joshua, Douglas, Nikohle, Aaron, Daniel, Kevin, Andrew, Nathan, Angelica, and Mathew; 8 great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and cherished friends. Alice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Caesar, in 1994. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday at Grissom's Chapel & Mortuary, 267 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo. A vigil service will begin at 7 pm on Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church, 264 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
