On the morning of July 15, 2023 Dan Maxie Burchfield age 75 went to be with his Lord after a long and courageous battle with ALS. Dan was a native of Itta Bena, Mississippi and a long time resident of Hammond, LA and surrounding area. He was a dedicated member and Deacon of Westside Baptist Church in Ponchatoula.

Dan proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years and was deployed into the Vietnam conflict. He was a member of the 2nd Battalion 27th Infantry Wolfhounds. In June of 1968, he was awarded a Bronze Star for his bravery. He would humbly say, "I just did my duty".

Dan was in the pest control business for over 50 years. In 1985, Dan and his wife moved to Hammond to start his own business Redd Pest Control, now RPC Pest Solutions. He was a member of the Louisiana Pest Control Assn. and served a term as its President.

After joining the Hammond Kiwanis Club in June 1990, he served as President, board member, and played a significant role in the club's major fundraising events such as Tour de Tangipahoa Bike Ride. His commitment and devoted service to the community earned him numerous awards and recognition, including the prestigious George Hixson Fellowship Award. Recently, he was named Emeritus Member of the club. In addition, he served on the board at Community State Bank and The Hammond Golf.

Along with all he did in service to his church and community, he was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed hiking and camping with his wife and friends. Dan was a friend to all and everyone that knew him loved him.

Words could never express the deep feeling of loss as we say good-bye to this wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He is already dearly missed but we know he is no longer in pain.

Dan is survived by the love of his life, his wife Nettie Lynn Ingram Burchfield; sons, Jon Kevin Burchfield of New Orleans, and Jay Bradley Burchfield (Stacy) of Hammond; sisters, Shirley Hodges of Itta Bena, MS and Delores Mullins (Jim) of Ferriday, LA; brother Allen Burchfield (Anna May) of Natchez, MS; grandsons Caleb Burchfield, Layne Burchfield (Marrissa), Adrian Burchfield, granddaughter Magnolia Burchfield all of Hammond, and many nieces and nephews.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents, James Wade Burchfield, and Dura Allen May Burchfield; brothers, Jasper Burchfield, James Burchfield, William Burchfield, Bobby Burchfield and Billy Burchfield.

Dan's nephews will serve as the Pallbearers for both the Funeral and Graveside services. The Deacons of Westside Baptist Church will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either The Team Gleason Foundation, The Paralyzed Veterans of America or your favorite charitable organization.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation at Westside Baptist Church, Ponchatoula, LA on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held in the Bear Creek Cemetery, Itta Bena, MS on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 12:00p.m.
