Funeral services for Otto O. Fossey, 84, who died at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center Monday, April 21, 1989, were held on Wednesday, April 23 at the First Lutheran church with the Rev. D. Comnick officiating.

Mr. Fossey was born February 17, 1885 in Mitchell county, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton O. Fossey. He was baptized and confirmed in the Mona Lutheran church, and lived in this community all his life except for the few years he homesteaded in North Dakota.

On January 5, 1910 he married Anna Marie Hansen, and six children were born to this union. Two of them, Kenneth and Olive died in infancy. His first wife died August 23, 1923.

Mr. Fossey served his community through active participation in church, school and civic affairs, in addition to his responsibilities of a motherless home.

On November 26, 1941 he married Esther K. Haugen. They continued farming until the fall of 1948 when he retired in St. Ansgar because of ill health. He enjoyed retirement until January 1968 when he became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center here.

Mr. Fossey is survived by his wife, Esther; three daughters, Mrs. Vernon L. (Alice) Smesrud, Springdale, Ark., Irene of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Jack C. (Edith) Griffith of Harrisburg, Penn.; one son, Oliver, St. Ansgar; 10 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Gilbert C. (Hannah) Martin, Austin,; three brothers, Eddie, Mense and George, all of Lyle; and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Clara Thompson and Mrs. Melvin (Eva) Martin and two brothers, Charles and Alf.

Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery, Mona, with Rev. Comnick in charge of committal services.

Otto married Anna Marie Hansen on Janaury 5, 1910, but she died in 1923; and Otto later married Esther Haugen. Otto and Anna had six children: Alice, Irene, Olive, Oliver, Kenneth and Edith.
