Carl (Dick) graduated from Fayette High School in New Goshen in 1958. He loved sports and played catcher on the baseball team and forward on the basketball team. Shortly after high school Carl joined the Army and served for 12 years. During his military career he was stationed in Taiwan where he met and married Lucy Chang on September 26, 1963. He also served in Germany and did two tours of duty in Vietnam as well as being stationed at various posts in the states. After retiring from the Army as Chief Warrant Officer, he and his wife moved to Honolulu, Hawaii with their two children and remained there, only returning to Indiana to visit family.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and one brother Mark Baum. He is survived by two sisters Carol (Lawrence) Baker, Worthington, and Joyce Wallace of Terre Haute; and two brothers Von (Cathy) Baum and Robert (Faith) Baum of Terre Haute. He is survived by his son William Baum and his daughter Wendy Kay Petronave, both of Honolulu, Hawaii. He is survived by one granddaughter Tasha Lynn (Kayden) Jacobs of Bonney Lake, Washington. Tasha and Kayden have four children Chaves, Irese, Ava, and Kylo. They were dearly loved by their grandpa.
Carl and Lucy's ashes will be scattered over the ocean per Carl's request.
