James J. Sauer 74 year old resident of Pierz, MN passed away Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Buckman, MN with Father Ken Popp officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Michael's Parish Cemetery in Buckman, MN. A visitation will be held from 9-10:30 A.M. on Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Buckman, MN. Funeral arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Pierz, MN.
James J. Sauer was born on July 1, 1942 in Buckman Township, Morrison County to the late Leo and Mary (Kujawa) Sauer. As a young man James was very interested in horses. He loved harnessing them up, jumping fences and had names for all of them. James was employed at the Cole-Sewell Co. for 22 years as a painter. He enjoyed his work, spraying bathtubs and shower stalls. He lived with a couple who he enjoyed very much. He was their personal chauffeur, driving them wherever they wanted to go. Regardless if it was taking them to the grocery store or on vacation. James truly enjoyed their friendship and driving them around. After his employer moved, James lived in many places including Assisted Living in Pine River for 4 years. When he became ill, James moved into the Foley Nursing Home and resided there for the past 17 years, until the time of his death.
James is survived by his brothers; Richard (Bernadine) Sauer of Pierz, MN, Gene Sauer of Montrose, IA, Daniel (Ione) Sauer of Foley, MN; sisters, Beverly Schmidtbauer of Pierz, MN, Shirley (Jeff) Novak of Foley, MN, and many nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother, Jack and brother, Gerald Sauer; 5 infant brothers; sister, Diana Katka; nephew, Michael Katka.
