Peter was named for his maternal grandfather, Peter J. Jergens, Jr., on whose birthday he was born.

Pete attended South Windsor High School (South Windsor, Connecticut) for his freshman year, where he learned to type error-free at 75 words per minute, a skill he valued throughout his life. Pete then transferred to E. C. Goodwin Technical High School in New Britain, Connecticut, where he was a student in the tool and die program. He graduated from Goodwin Tech in 1966.

Pete also studied Tool Design Engineering at Hartford State Technical College. He found employment as a tool maker, working for a time at Pratt & Whitney. There was nothing that Pete could not make, fix, or repair.

For a number of years, Pete served as a firefighter with the South Windsor Volunteer Fire Dept.

Pete joined the US Air Force during the Vietnam war. He worked as an Aircraft Master Electrician, spending most of his term of service stationed in the US. Pete also was a career Corporate Pilot, flying jets and helicopters for the corporate office of United Technology Corporation (UTC).

Peter was laid to rest on July 31, 2023, with military honors.
