John James Ralston III passed peacefully to be with the Lord Sunday, July 23, 2023, at the age of 78. He was surrounded by his daughters Debbie and Rebecca during the last days of his life.
John was born April 15, 1945, to John, Jr. and Sarah (Finn) Ralston. He grew up in Hyde Park and Downers Grove. He graduated from Downers Grove North High School and then attended the University of Tulsa, pledging Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, where he was social chair and on the executive committee. His professional career spanned decades in corporate sales, as well as his own remodeling firm.
John's favorite pastime was spending time with his family, especially his four grandchildren. He enjoyed boating, traveling to Mexico and the Florida Keys, as well as attending air shows across the country and was an avid classic car enthusiast. John enjoyed tinkering around the house, amassed a large collection of tools and gadgets, and knew how to repair almost anything. He may have been known as a man of few words, but if you ever got on the topic of the weather forecast, he usually imparted much more information than you ever wanted to know! He was prepared for whatever might come his way - always a Boy Scout at heart!
John is survived by his children, Debbie (Leath) Jackson, Matthew Roberts, Rebecca (Jay) Garland, his grandchildren Lauralee, Forrest, Noah, and Luke, step-grandson Brandon, sisters Genevieve Westphal and Sue (Bob) White, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son in infancy Christopher James Ralston.
Interment private. The family thanks Vitas Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.
