July 1983:John B. Allen, 59, of Route 2, Jacksboro, died June 30 at Lake City Hospital. He was a 20-year employee of Union Carbide in Oak Ridge, a Baptist, Caryville Lodge No. 665 F&AM, 32nd Degree Mason, a Shriner and a member of Kerbela Temple and LaFollette Shrine Club. Funeral services were Sunday at Cox Funeral Home with the Rev. Mack Smith officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Carolyn Hayes Allen of Jacksboro; one son, Joseph Clyde Allen of Kingston; one daughter, Mrs. Gypsy Harrill of Madisonville; two grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Lucille Cox of Jellico; Mrs. Merline Dossett of Louisville, Ky., Mrs. Cleta Biggs of Nashville, Mrs. Hazel Bumgardner of Coatsville, Ind.; one brother, Jesse Allen of Hamilton, Ohio.
