The son of the late Paul Roland Hinkle and Coline Ford Hinkle. On March 23, 1951, at Clinton, TN, he was married to the former Wanda Pauline Miller, who survives at Parsons. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to cancer.

Survivors include a cousin, Kay Baker Mower and husband, Roger of South Carolina. He was the last surviving memger of his immediate family.

He was a graduate of Parsons High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and graduated from Davis & Elkins College in 1950. He was employed as a civil engineer with the Maxon Construction Co., The Boeing Co. and the West Virginia Dept. of Highways, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Izaak Walton League, a member of the Pythagoras Lodge 128 AF&AM of Parsons and a member of the First Uniter Methodist Church of Parsons.
