She died Monday in Henderson County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Avant was the daughter of John and Margaret Hughes Davis, a pioneer Henderson County family. She was born Feb. 28, 1890 in the Baxter Community and had lived in the community all her life.
She was a housewife and was a correspondent for the Athens Review covering the Baxter Community for many years.
Mrs. Avant was active in the United Methodist Churches of Baxter and Athens and was a member of the Baxter Home Demonstration Club.
She is survived by two grandsons, Harold C Clark and Richard Clark of Baxter; one granddaughter, Sarah Jane Brown of Baxter; two great-grandaughters, Crista Clark and April Clark and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Lynn Davis, Hyman Davis, Ford Davis, Ferrell Davis, Jimmy Wyrick and John Wyrick.
