Garland Earl Aker, Sr., 61, of Springville, Va., died Tuesday morning, December 15, 1970 in a veteran's hospital in Beckley after a long illness.
Born November 7, 1909 in Widemouth, W.V., he was a son of the late Rush and Grace Lytton Aker. He was a retired employee of U.S. Steel. A WWII veteran, and he was a member of the DAV of Princeton. His wife Hattie Lou Freeman Aker preceded him in death in 1969.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Bruce (Barbara) Hawes of Sunnyvale, Ca., Mrs. Robert (Betty) Angles, Jr. of Springville, Mrs. Pauline Kane of Baltimore, Md.; one son Garland E. (Beverly) Aker, Jr. of Bramwell; three grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Margaret Tate of Clifton Forge, Va., Mrs. Ruth Poole, of Hillsville, Va., Mrs. Inez Surrath of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Frances Grey of West Chester, Pa., Mrs. Vivian Bentley of Hopewell, Va. and two brothers, Cecil Aker of Pulaski, Va. and Raymond Aker of Cincinnati, Oh.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Va. with Rev. Charles Sublette and Rev. W.W. Watson officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memory Gardens.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. today.
