Mary Ann Cerny passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on Thursday, August 3, 2023. Mary Ann was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 12, 1934 to the late George and Hattie Kapolnek. Mary Ann met and married the love of her life and boy next door, the late Jack Cerny, on April 23, 1955. They went on to have two children, Dan (Anne) Cerny and Sheila (Tony) Tinetti, and five grandchildren: Claire, Steven, Grace, Thomas, and Jack. Mary Ann was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, a teacher's aide at St. Juliana where she shared her love for teaching children, as well as an administrative assistant for her brother's business. Mary Ann was always happiest when she was spending time with her family or helping others. She was a role model to many. In addition to her two children and five grandchildren, she was loved dearly by her siblings: the late George (late Mary) Kapolnek, the late Jim (Honey) Kapolnek, the late Richard (late Barbara) Kapolnek, Robert (late Jacqueline) Kapolnek, the late Susan (late Walter) Bronson, the late Raymond (Stephanie) Kapolnek, Karen (Don) Neustadt, Joyce (John) Furtkamp, the late Tom (Diane) Kapolnek, Joan (Howard) Henneman, Dave (Gretchen) Kapolnek, and Don (Bonnie) Kapolnek. She was a fond aunt and great-aunt to many. We find great peace in knowing our mom and dad are together again with their family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home 7812 N. Milwaukee Ave in Niles on Monday, August 7 from 4:00pm-8:00pm.

Funeral service on Tuesday August 8, starting at 9:15am at Skaja Terrace followed by Funeral Mass at 10:00am at St. Juliana Church, 7201 N. Oketo Ave., Chicago, IL and Interment at Maryhill Cemetery.
