Helen Delores Hunt of Urich, Mo., was born October 31, 1931, in Holden, Mo. the daughter of Joe Robert and Dorothy Lucille (James) Nay. She departed this life Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Clinton, Mo. at the age of 76 years, 5 months and 2 days. On November 28, 1948, Helen was united in marriage to Howard Eugene "Gene" Hunt in Garden City, Mo. Helen and Gene operated Hunt's Cafe in Blairstown for about 1 year until they bought a paper route for The Kansas City Star in Cameron, Mo. They moved from Cameron to Harrisonville, Mo. where they bought The Star route and operated it for 27 years. After moving to Harrisonville, they stated "throwing" The Shopper for J.W. and Wanda Brown at the Cass County Democrat- Missourian for 53 years. Helen was also employed at the Allen Bank and Trust, Citizens Bank and J.D. Jones, O.D. all in Harrisonville. In 1976, they moved to their farm they currently own and operate northeast of Urich, Mo. Helen was an active member of the community. She was a member of the Lucas United Methodist Church near Urich. Helen was a post Worth Matron of the Eastern Star, Harrisonville. She devoted many hours to the Urich Reunion and the Reunion Committee named her Woman of the Year in 1995. Helen was a past Grand Marshall of the Urich Reunion Parade in 1997. She was a loyal and active member of the Democratic Party, serving as a Township Committee Woman for many years. She loved the outdoors, fishing, gardening, taking care of the yard and was one of the best mushroom hunters in Henry County. Helen took great pride in her home and was a remarkable housekeeper and cook. Besides her parents, Helen was preceded in death by an infant brother, Robert Davis Nay and a sister, Jodie Morris. She is survived by her husband, of 59 years, Howard E. "Gene" Hunt of the home; a sister, Betty Jobes, Clinton, Mo.; nephews and nieces, Billy Sexson, Bobby Sexson, Mary Jo Spellerberg, Betty Kay Reeves, Geneva Sheets, Janet Thornburg, Beverly Cline, Russell Morris, John Morris, Barbara Morris, Bobby Gene Hunt, Teresa Hunt, Robin Basham and Rick Raker. A celebration of life visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Mo.
Honorary casket bearers were Martin Carignan, Kenny Emick, John Harris, Martin Halford, Dr. Doug Kenney, Bob Maddox, Ron Nadler, Dennis Setzer, Ron Setzer, John Stein, Russ Wernex, Tom Wilson and Howard Van Meter
Casket bearers were Fred Bunch, Bill Jobes, Gene McCalmon, Pete McComas, Alder Maze and Dave Rushton
