South Carolina Governor. A Lieutenant Govenor of South Carolina, he became Governor when Hugh Smith Thompson resigned in 1886. He was denied nomination for a full term at the Democratic convention that year. He later served as a state Senator and as President of the South Carolina Bar Association.
