Mr. James Edward Boutwell, 91, of Monticello passed away peacefully at Lawrence County Nursing Center, on August 6, 2023. Edward was born on January 25, 1932 in Lawrence County, MS to Clifton (A.C) Boutwell and Frankie Alford Boutwell of Lawrence County, MS.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023 at Carmel Baptist Church in Monticello from 10:00 AM until funeral services begin at 12:00 PM. Graveside services will follow in Carmel Church Cemetery.

Edward was a hardworking man his whole life. He hauled pulp wood and worked pipelines but was best known for his carpentry work. Edward retired as a building contractor after 40+ years of building houses in Lawrence and surrounding counties. He served his community as a constable and with 30+ years of service on the Board of Lawrence County Water Association. Edward loved everything about hunting turkey and deer, from preparing the land to bringing the kill home for supper. He also loved to fish and kept his ponds stocked for fishing with the grandkids. In his retirement Edward liked to watch westerns with his wife Edwina. They were married for 68 years before her passing in 2020 and he missed her greatly. They were crazy about the grandchildren and in their later years would say that was all that kept them going. Edward was known for being a stern, take no bull kind of man but he was also a loving brother, husband, father, grandfather and neighbor. Up until a short time ago Carmel Community could always count on seeing him drive by in the afternoons to make sure everything was as it should be. Edward will be missed by many.

He is survived by a daughter; Sonya Mahaffey of Monticello, brothers, Terry Boutwell of Brandon, MS and Jerry Boutwell of Monticello, two sisters; Diane Calcote of Jayess and Linda Pearl Harper of Jayess, MS; grandchildren, Shane Boutwell, Jeana Lambert, Bradi Hearn, Sawyer Mahaffey; great grandchildren, Tanner Boutwell, Kade Boutwell, Riley Lambert, Fanci Lambert, Hayleigh Hearn, Brayleigh Hearn; one great great grandchild, Kaisleigh Boutwell.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edwina Nelson Boutwell; son, Jr. Boutwell; brothers, Clifteen Boutwell, Ronnie Boutwell, Robbie Boutwell and Danny Boutwell. Hi
