James Nathan Northern was the husband of Joan Gadd. Together they had nine children: Anna Jane, William F., Delpha, Nannie Mae, Viola, Cathern, Lou Vernie, Rachael, and Joyce.
James Nathaniel Northern (Nathan Northern) was born in Rockcastle County, Kentucky on May 20, 1903. He was the son of William Franklin Northern and Mary Liza E. Baker Northern. He married Joan (Jo Ann) Gadd on July 5, 1922 in Mount Vernon Kentucky. Together they had nine children. Anna Jane, William Franklin, Delphia, Nannie May, Viola, Katherine Bell, Lou Vernie, Rachel and Joyce.
In his earlier years Nathan was a farmer, but for most of his life he worked as a carpenter.
Nathan and his parents help to establish The Free Pentecostal Church in Climax, Kentucky around 1929. (The name was later change to The Climax Holiness Church.) Nathan’s father donated the lumber for the church and Nathan built it.
Nathan was very good at caring for the sick. His daughter Rachel said if his circumstances were different, he probably would have gone into the medical field and would have made a fine doctor.
His last job was helping to build several of the building at the Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. He was injured on the on the job. Due to the injury he had to retired.
Nathan died at the age of 80 years old of lung cancer, June 14, 1983.
