William Elgin was the son of William F. Elgin and Caroline E. Fritz. He was born in Mount Airy, Carroll Co., MD and came to Whiteside Co., IL in 1902. He began to work at the Sterling Wire Mill at the young age of 15. He married Elveta Davion on April 21, 1928 in Amboy, IL. Together they had 6 childen. Betty, Patricia, Shirley, Rose, Richard, and Sharon.
