John Frederick was born to Jacob and Elizabeth Kuhnley Weber on the family farm in East Henderson Twp. surrounded by the farms of his Weber and Kuhnley grandparents as well as his great aunt and uncle Schlemmer. His father died when he was 19 years old. He married Caroline Carrie Rishel, daughter of Daniel and Sarah Salome Kuntz Rishel when he was 21 years old. Fred traded farms with his older brother Charles A. on 2 July 1876 after their father died. It is believed that their father had already transferred the Deed of his own farm to his eldest son Charles before he died. Fred was a farmer there for a number of years, before moving his family to York County, but after living there on a farm for 7 or 8 years, they returned to Troutville in 1891. Here he became a partner of C. Erhart in the butcher business. In 1894 Fred moved to Sykesville to continue the meat business, and opened on the Weber Block in Sykesville which he transferred to his eldest son Burton, before starting a feed store in the Weber Block in January 1909. He was a tax collector, and served several terms and as truant officer for the borough schools. He was Street and Water Commissioner in Sykesville until June 12, 1920. He and Carrie had nine surviving children when they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in Sykesville on Oct. 23, 1923 with a very large party that included his oldest sister Charlotte Weber Slemmer from Altoona among the many guests.
