Married Orrin Merritt Sr. June 7, 1920 and raised two sons- Orrin Merritt Jr. and LeRoy Lewis.

Grace Emily Arnold Merritt:
I started to school in Owatonna Grade School, when in second grade we moved to Jamestown, N. Dakota., where I finished my education. In 1918 we moved to Mandan, N. Dakota. I quit school and went to work as time keeper in the rail road office until the man who had been in WW 1 returned and of course got his job back. I substituted in the car repairman's office for awhile then had a chance to teach school. I taught one year and was on the verge of a nervous break-down, so came to Genoa to spend a few months with sister Alice and Roy. I worked as bookkeeper at a department store here until I married. Orrin was about the first man I met after coming to Genoa in Sept. 1919 and we were married June 7, 1920. Orrin was born June 30, 1891 and spent his whole life in Genoa, except for about 5 years we spent in central Illinois.
In 1925 we moved to DeKalb where Orrin worked for Clark Printing Co. for about 1 year. He then went to work for the Great American Stores at Rochelle, Illinois. In 1925 they sold out to National Tea, and they sent Orrin to Kenosha to clean up and try to save their store there. We stayed there for about six months, then quit and moved back to Genoa. Orrin worked for International Corespondents School for about three years, and then went back with National Tea. We were sent to Clinton, Ill, Bloomington and Danville. In 1935 we moved back to Genoa where the boys finished their schooling. Orrin graduated in 1940 and LeRoy in 1946.

Orrin Sr. was not well for several years and just worked at odd jobs. I went to work at Leich Electric in 1942 during World War 2. Orrin Jr. was in the service. I spent 16 1/2 years with Leich Electric, retiring on June 30, 1965.
