Joseph "Pap' B. Newport, 81, of Lower Windsor Township, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. He was the beloved husband of the late Maryanne (Eveler) Newport. The couple were married for 52 years until her passing in 2017.

Mr. Newport was born in York on March 6, 1942 and was the son of the late Joseph G. and Marie (Herman) Newport.

Joe proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a former heavy equipment operator for Donald Heffner and Sons as well as Deller Excavating, and retired from David Edward after more than 20 years of service in the maintenance department. In the past Joe enjoyed racing go carts and he also enjoyed going hunting. He was a "diehard Ford Man" and had the ability to fix most anything with an engine or that was mechanical.

He is survived by his daughter, Leslie L. Gonzalez and her husband Tito; granddaughters, Jennifer and Jessica Robinson; great grandchildren, Dominik Shenberger, Faith Shenberger, Allie Hartley and Macy"M&M" Hartley. He is also survived by his sisters, Shirley Eisenhart, Shelby Stone (the late George), and Rose Little (the late John); brother-in-law, Glenn Walker, sister-in- law, Pat Gerlitzki and brother-in-law, Roger Eveler, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Liz Walker.

A service to honor Joe's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at The Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., 104 W. Main St., Dallastown, with Pastor Ann Overmiller officiating. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday and will begin at 10:00 AM until the start of the service. Interment to follow in Salem Community Cemetery.
