Jerry Lynn Fortune, 79, of Brazil, Indiana, passed away on August 16, 2023, while at The Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care, in Terre Haute.
Jerry was born on July 18, 1944, in Vigo County, Indiana, the son of Donald and Betty J. (Stafford) Fortune. He graduated from Staunton High School with the class of 1962. Jerry worked for Haley Brothers Coal as a truck driver. Later in life, Jerry also worked as an owner and operator leased to Haley Brothers. For several years Jerry worked as the Bus Garage Supervisor for Clay Community Schools. He retired in 2012 following health complications.
Jerry earned the designation of Master Mason on March 20, 1981 and was a member of the Masonic Lodge 541. He had also served as a Special Deputy with the Clay County Sheriff's Department.
Jerry was an outdoorsman and also enjoyed muscle cars.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Donald Fortune and Betty J. (Stafford) Fortune and his stepmother Norma Waymire Fortune and a brother Donald Arthur Fortune Jr.
Survivors include his daughters: Karen Gummer (Curt), Alaina Eslinger, and Lynn Judy (Richard); grandchildren: Jordan Fortune and Zachary Fortune; sisters: Maureen Fortune Butler (Mark) and Kathleen Gilbert (Steve) as well as several extended family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at White Pine Manor 7831 North State Road 59 Brazil, Indiana 47834, on September 8, 2023, from 5-8 PM with Masonic Services provided by members of the Masonic Lodge. French Funeral Home, in Brazil, has been entrusted with his care.
