Phyllis Ann Edwards Walton, 85, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed from this life on May 16, 2023.

Phyllis was born on July 31, 1937, in Cabarrus County, North Carolina and was the daughter of the late Reverend Vance and Kathleen Nance Edwards. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Walton and brother, Thomas Vance Edwards.

Phyllis was a graduate of the New Salem School, Troy State University, Boston University and Clemson University. In 1957 she married John Thomas Walton, an engineer and future Army aviator. Work and military assignments had her family moving, every year or two, across North Carolina, the southeastern USA, New York, Germany and Indonesia. She resettled in Union County in 1996. Phyllis was a high school administrator, science teacher, musician, genealogist and voracious reader of fiction. Phyllis's commitment to her family, community and her Christian faith will be remembered by all that knew her.

She is survived by her sister, Janet Edwards Brown; her children, John Scott Walton, Robin Elizabeth Walton Ross and Steven Vance Walton. Phyllis also leaves ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
