Mrs. Carrie Mae Hoeksema
EAU CLAIRE – Mrs. Carrie Mae Hoeksema, 89, Kalamazoo, died Monday at Bronson Hospital, Kalamazoo, where, she was admitted a week earlier. She had been ill a year. Mrs. Hoeksema was born May 3, 1879, in Goshen, Ind., and moved to Kalamazoo as a child. She was a frequent visitor here at the home of a daughter, Mrs. George M. Sharpe and family, South Maple St. She was married April 2, 1899, to Louis J. Hoeksema, who died in 1934. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Sharpe and Mrs. William B. Rogers, Watervliet; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and a sister. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Johns Chapel of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Kalamazoo. Rev. James Cr Holt will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Kalamazoo. Memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Church or the American Cancer Society. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m Tuesday at the Langland Funeral Home, Kalamazoo. Mrs. Hoeksema was known as the oldest participant in the Labor Day walk-over at the Mackinac Bridge.
