Joe W. Sanders, 90, of Plainview passed away Saturday, April 5, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Parkview Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Martin officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Center Plains Cemetery near Cotton Center under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home.

Joe Will Sanders was born Feb. 13, 1918, in Benjamin, Texas, to John Duff Sanders and Nannie Elizabeth Clifton. Joe honored his country by serving in the United States Army Air Force from October 1940 to October 1945. He primarily served as a flight engineer on B-25s while stationed in the Panama Canal region during World War II. He relocated to Plainview in 1950 and served for more than 30 years as an engineer with the Texas Highway Department. He married Mildred McFerrin on July 28, 1946, in Cotton Center. The couple was blessed with more than 55 years of matrimony before Mildred's death in 2001. Joe was a member of Parkview Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He also served as past president of the Texas Public Employees Association. He enjoyed woodworking and traveling with his wife. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, six brothers and one sister.

Joe is survived by his sisters-in-law, Ethel Sanders of Whiteface, Wanda Hunt and her husband, Tex, of Shallowater, and Wynnell McFerrin Lewis of Seminole; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials in Joe's name may be made to Parkview Baptist Church, c/o Fellowship Hall Remodeling Fund.
