Services for M.C. Carter, 94, the oldest working geologist in the United States, died in Wichita Falls. The body was taken to Webb Cemetery in Hunt County, Texas. Mr. Carter lived with a son, O.R. Carter, 1606 Travis. For many years, he was employed by the Kemp, Kell, and Barwise interests in Wichita Falls. As a native of Tennessee, he became interested in geology in Tennessee before the Civil War and had been an active geologist since 1880. He was instrumental in the finding of the Fowler pool, famed as having launched the Burkburnett boom. Survived by two daughters; five sons; two sisters; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Marion was one of sixteen children. In the late 1870's Marion and most of his family moved from Tennessee to the Hunt County, Texas.
