Gene was a great husband, Dad, brother, uncle and friend. He loved to go fishing and crabbing which he and his brother were doing that horrible day. He also loved his gardens. If he wasn't looking through gardening catalogs for the spring, he was looking through sporting goods catalogs the rest of the seasons. He was deeply loved and is severely missed.
He was an employee after retiring for 38 years at Johnson Controls, starting when it was Globe Union where he had many friends. And a member of UAW 1516. He was Union proud.
He is pre-deceased by his son, Bobby Lee Smith and his dad, Robert L. Smith.
He is survived by Terri, his wife of almost 44 years of Chestertown, his daughter Stacey Lynn Smith of Wilmington, DE, his mom, Betty Jean Smith of Middletown, DE, his brother Michael of Worton, a sister Kathleen Elizabeth and her husband, Kenny Holland of Middletown, DE, 3 special nieces, Michael Lynn Whitehead, (Chris and Gunner), Heather (Jay) and Heidi Wyatt (Brandon) and 2 special nephews, Jeremy Smith and his family and C.J., also numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, his good friends, Billy Parish, Doug Taylor and Tim Poore, and Gene's best furry friend, Bubba.
