27 Sep 1827 John Rafford rallied with neighbors and muskets against British Constable McNeil's armed force, recovered Joseph Arnold's cow, and escorted the British from Maine Territory. The 1842 Webster-Ashburton Treaty ended the Aroosook War.

Gravesite Details
This headstone was purchased by Kenneth Lee Hayden, great great grandson of John Rafford, in May 2010. The headstone was installed and dedicated on Aug. 14, 2010, with many Rafford cousins attending, as well as Fort Fairfield VFW and American Legion
