Carl grew up on a farm and graduated from the Center View School District No. 7. He worked as a ranch hand on the Dewey Ranch and on March 23, 1929 he married Isabella Tubbs. After their marriage, they returned to the Dewey Ranch and he continued working as a ranch hand and she cooked for all of the help.
In January, Carl and Isabella moved to Carl's father's farm. On February, 1930 Isabella gave birth to their son, Derald. In November of 1930 they built a home in Levant where Carl worked with his father as a drayman for the George Beaver Lumber Company. On Oct. 17, 1934, their second son, Donald Gene, was born.
Carl then worked as a carpenter in and around Levant until Christmas Day in 1943. He was inducted on Jan. 1, 1944. He served two years in the 750 Railroad Operation Battalion. Seventeen of those months were spent in France, Germany, and Belgium.
Carl was a T/4 Sergeant. He received three stars. They were for Southern France, The Bulge, and for the Rhine. Carl returned home on October 17, 1945 and was honorably discharged on Dec. 6. He then was the janitor and maintenance man for the Levant Consolidated School for eight and-a-half years.
In 1958, Carl worked as a carpenter in Colby. In 1959, Carl and Isabella sold their Levant home and built a new home in Colby. Carl took another maintenance and janitor job for the United States Government and for the Civil Service before retiring under disabilty.
Carl always enjoyed hunting, fishing, and dancing.
