In 1900 she met Samuel Ellis Mitts where she was living with her uncle in Wisconsin. On January 23, 1901 they were married at the home of her uncle, John McKnight, in Lucas, Wisconsin. She and Sam celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends in 1951.
They homesteaded in Northern Wisconsin for the first 10 years of their marriage. In 1911 they moved to Portland and to various sections of the State; owning a business in Bandon; owned a ranch about 3 miles from Lacomb; and later moved to Lebanon.
Mae's hobby was writing poetry. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church.
Funeral services for Mae Isabell Mitts, 93, of 801 West Ash St. will be this afternoon Thursday, December 26 at Jost Funeral Home at 2 PM. Rev. John Arkins will officiate and internment will follow at the IOOF Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband Sam; 2 sons, Vivian Lee Mitts of Portland, and Earl Ebenezer Mitts of Lebanon.
Survivors are a son, Lawrence "Pete" Mitts of Astoria; three daughters, Mrs. Hazel Reynolds and Mrs. Daisy Mason both of Lebanon, and Mrs. Henrietta White of Sweet Home; one sister, Mrs. Daisy Burritt of Mar Vista, California; 18 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great grandchildren.
