2nd Lt., Co. I, 37th VA Infantry. Enlisted as a Sgt. on 2nd May 1861 at New Garden, Russell County, Virginia in Capt. Simeon Hunt's company of New Garden Fearnots. Promoted to 2nd Lt. on 17 May 1862. Killed in action at the Battle of Antietam and is most likely buried in an unmarked grave in the Washington Confederate Cemetery at Hagerstown, MD. Son of John Barrett & Cynthia A. Hurt.
