HELSEL - Rodney Allen, of Nanty Glo, age 59, passed away August 27, 2023 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born November 4, 1963, in Altoona, son of the late William L. and Judith A. (Ingram) Helsel. He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Denna. Rodney is survived by his children, Alexis Helsel (Richard McIver), Cassandra Helsel, Jordan Helsel (Kaylee Franks), and Jessica Mourabit; grandchildren, Carter Lytle and Rory McIver; former spouse, Karen Helsel; siblings, DeWayne, DeNice, Dairryl, and Dairin; special friends, Lori Oldham and "Brother Chuck"; and his beloved dogs, Smokey and Sarge. Rodney, also known as "Hot Rod" by many, was one of the most hardworking people you could ever meet and a proud member of Local Laborers Union 910. He held various jobs throughout his life, notably as a coal miner and in bridge construction where he enjoyed working alongside his son. He loved spending time with his family, bragging about Carter to anyone who would listen, and hunting and fishing. He remained stubborn, strong-willed, and a fighter until the very end and above all else, strong in his faith. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Bowser Ondriezek Funeral Home in Nanty Glo where funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. by Pastor Geno Bartoletti.
