Information from: "The Descendants of Jacob Longyear of Ulster County, New York" by Edmund J Longyear, 1942:
Johannes Longyear, son of Jacob Longyear and Maria Cox, born Shandaken, Ulster County, N. Y., Mar. 24, 1754. In 1778 he married Annatje Winne. He was the first hotel keeper in the Shandaken valley, licensed in 1787 at Phoenicia. He sold out to his nephew, Andrew Longyear, who was licensed in 1805, and moved across the Esopus Creek to the farm where he lived until his death, Aug. 31, 1824. He and his wife are both buried on this farm, situated a short distance south of Phoenicia. They were both members of the Reformed Dutch Church of Shokan. He was appointed one of the Overseers of Highways at the first town meeting of Woodstock, June, 1787; was appointed fence viewer same township in 1799. Listed as Johannis Langyaeer, Revolutionary Soldier, in Ulster County Militia, First Regiment, under Captain Simon LeFever. He died Aug. 31, 1824, and his will, dated Nov. 12, 1822, was proved Oct. 23, 1824. (his will is included with an entire inventory in this book)
