John Joseph Abair Jr, age 78, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2023.
He was born May 29, 1945 to John and Eleanor Abair, in Springfield Massachusetts where he grew up. Later, during the Vietnam era, he was drafted into the United States Army. After serving his country, Jack continued his service to the greater good of others by becoming a firefighter for the city of Springfield MA, where he served for 20 years. Being a firefighter was huge. He was very humble. It was during that time he met Debbie. She had four children, Gina, Cheri, Tammy, Josh. He was an instant dad to the kids. He loved and cared for them. The word stepchildren was never used, and the kids never used the words stepdad. He was always their Dad and they were always his kids. His entire life, he only referred to the four kids as his children. Some of the fondest memories were of the family Christmas Eve parties. There was food, singing, playing games, food, stand-up comedy, more food, caroling through the neighborhood, more food.
Jack so loved his wife Debbie and was incredibly proud of his kids.
A few of Jack's other loves were playing golf and watching the New England Patriots. He also loved being outdoors and creating beautiful yards with flowers, plants, and trees. He had an amazing talent for landscaping.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
The family will honor Jacks life with a military burial at the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 7931 McCrory Lane, Nashville, TN, Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 1pm.
