Lawrence J. Mavis of Chesterfield passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the age of 74. Loving husband of Ruth (Broeder) Mavis for 37 years. Dear father of George (Salina) Mavis, Loretta (Nicolas) Cooley, and Catherine (Scott) Fergusson. Proud grandfather of George, Lily, James, Eli, Megan (Jerad), Jonathon, Franklin, Aiden, and Charlotte. Cherished great grandfather of Addison Beauchesne. Adored cousin of the late Joseph and Mary Kay Sobota, and Pat Valliere. Beloved in-law of Raymond (Linda), the late John (Lori), Robert (Kathy), and William (the late Dianne), and uncle to several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents George and Agnes and his dear aunt Marie Vannie.

Lawrence had a love for academia, especially pertaining to the field of chemistry. He completed his Bachelor of Science at Central Michigan University and then continued to Oakland University to earn his Master of Science. Following his own education, Lawrence worked as a K-12 teacher, and then as a professor of chemistry at Saint Clair County Community College (SC4) for more than thirty years. When he wasn't teaching, Lawrence was a devoted dad and grandpa. Lawrence was a proud fifty-year member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) as well as a member of the Anchor Bay Knights of Columbus, 5981.

Visitation for Lawrence will take place on Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with a Rosary at 7:00 pm located at the Wasik Funeral Home - Gendernalik Chapel, 35259 23 Mile Road, New Baltimore. Instate 11:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Funeral mass Friday, September 8, 2023, at St. Isidore Church, 18201 23 Mile Road, Macomb.
