Gary was born to Stanley and Charlotte Emel on June 13, 1956. He married the love of his life, Betty Jo (Carlyle) Emel on May 8, 1976.
A private family scattering of the cremains will be held at a later date.
Family was the most important part of Gary's life. His grandchildren became a source of pride and strength during his year long battle with leukemia.
Gary was a 5th generation farmer and took great pride watching his son become the 6th generation to farm. His dedication and integrity were well respected in the farming community.
Gary was a life long advocate for Sullivan Schools. Gary, his children, and grandchildren have all attended or are attending Sullivan Schools. He served on the Sullivan School Board for 12 years, as well as, many other boards and committees in our community.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Jo Emel; son, Brad (Fayanne) Emel of Sullivan; daughter, Sarah (Dave) Melvin of Sullivan; grandchildren, Cora and Lena Emel and Amelia, Harper and Clyde Melvin; sisters, Cheryl (Richard) Wildman of Sullivan and Jennifer (Mark) Stoltz of Inverness, Florida and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
