Mrs. Cora Ann (Lynde) Greene, 79, died Saturday, Aug. 22 after an illness of only a week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Fitch of Wilmington where she has been cared for the past few months. Cora Ann Lynde was born in Whitingham, June 17, 1857, a daughter of William and Jeanette (Field) Lynde. She was educated in the public schools of Whitingham. On Nov. 12, 1878 she was united in marriage with Menzo W. Greene of Whitingham. They lived in Boston for a time. Mr. Greene was taken ill and they returned to Whitingham, where Mr. Greene died Sept. 11, 1880. For about 40 years Mrs. Greene has been a cripple and for the past 12 years she has been unable to walk, being confined to a wheel chair. For about 30 years she lived with Mrs. Ann L. Benson in Brattleboro. After the death of Mrs. Benson she went to live with her cousin, Mrs. S. S. Hunt and worked as a trimmer in Mrs. Hunt's millinery store. After Mrs. Hunt's death Mrs. Greene was cared for by Mrs. D. Harris of West Brattleboro and about five years ago she came to the home of Mrs. George Chase in Wilmington where Katie Behalo cared for her. Last April Mrs. Greene went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Fitch, where everything possible had been done for her comfort and happiness. Mrs. Greene bore her affliction with great fortitude, ever so patient, kind and considerate of those who cared for her. She had endeared herself to a large circle of friends. Her nearest relatives are two cousins, Oscar F. Benson of Brattleboro and Sarah L. Benson of Biddeford, Me. Funeral services were held Monday Aug. 24, at 2 o'clock at the Fitch home. Rev. M. E. Barter, pastor of the Baptist church read poems and selections and sang Face to Face and When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder, playing his own accompaniment on the harp. Rev. R. S. English, pastor of the Congregational church, offered prayer and pronounced the benediction. There were many beautiful floral tributes. The bearers were Oscar Benson, Frank L. Reed, Russell Fitch and William Gile. The body was taken to Winchester, N.H., and buried beside her parents.
