Captain (USMC Ret) Don R. Fogt, age 80, resident of Columbus, died on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at Columbus Hospice House. Cryptside services are scheduled at the Chapel of the Pine Mausoleum, Parkhill Cemetery on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jerry Noblin officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 11, 2008 from 5 until 7 p.m. Mr. Fogt, son of the late Rhine Delphas Fogt and Ruby Faulder Fogt was born March 16, 1928 in Lansing, MI. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corp with over 20 years of honorable service, serving in World War II. After leaving the military, he worked at Dolly Madison, serving in the capacity of Assistant Superintendent. He also worked at Callaway Gardens where he was a Pastry Chef and later he drove a school bus for the Muscogee County School District, assisting many handicapped children in the community. Mr. Fogt was also a member of Northside Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris M. Fogt. Mr. Fogt is survived by one daughter, Kathleen Yancy of Greensboro, NC.; two sons, William J. Fogt and his wife Janet of Alpine, UT. and Rhine L. Fogt and his wife Charlene of Fortson, GA.; one sister, Betty Banks and her husband James of Washington, DC.; three brothers, Jack Fogt of Plymouth, MI., Norman Fogt and his wife Jean of TX. and Larry Fogt and his wife of Plymouth, MI.; fourteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
