Dr. Earl R. Seaman, Jr., D.V.M., 74, of Tucson, Arizona, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007 at University Medical Center, Tucson, following a long illness.

He was born in Reedy, W.Va., the son of the late Rev. Earl R. and Myrtle Nuzum Seaman. He was a 1950 graduate of Spencer High School, active in 4-H and Future Farmers of America. He continued to pursue these interests at West Virginia University, joining Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and completing a Bachelor of Science degree in 1954. After serving in the United States Army, he entered the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 1961. He was employed with the Ohio State Department of Agriculture throughout his career, residing in Springfield, Ohio. He was a member of the National Association of Swine Practitioners and active in the Ohio Specific Pathogen Free Swine Program, serving on the board of directors for both organizations. He was also a member of Alpha Psi professional fraternity, and enjoyed carpentry and photography.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara R. Seaman of Tucson, Arizona; a daughter, Katherine S. Kean of Spencer, W.Va.; a sister, Gwendolyn E. Long of Columbus, Ohio; nieces Dr. Karen Kerpen of Brooklyn, New York, Sharon Petitjean of Marietta, Georgia, and Susan Burfield of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and nephews, Mark S. Long of Columbus, Ohio, and L.D. Epling II of Spencer, W.Va.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline S. Cooley.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Friday, October 5, 2007 at the Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Avenue, Parkersburg, W.Va. with Dr. Timothy Allen, minister of First United Methodist Church, Parkersburg, officiating. Services will conclude with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon until time of services at the funeral home.
