She is credited with being the English costume designer in at least 18 films from 1945 to 1960. Her most known work was in "Sea Fury" in 1958, "Dangerous Exile" in 1957 and Hungry Hill in 1947. Her first husband, Bruce Frederick Cummings, worked at the British Museum in the natural history department, but he is best remembered for his book, "The Journal of a Disappointed Man" published under the pseudonym W. N. P. Barbellion. After Cumming's death, she married Edwin Abbey on December 15, 1921.
