Doris B. Cable, age 93, passed away on September 6, 2023. Doris was born to John and Honor Callaghan and grew up in Manchester, NH, where she met Donald Volkmann, her first husband. Doris and Don had 5 children together, and moved to California in the late 1940's. Doris was widowed in the late 1950's and began working and taking classes in the evening. Doris married her second husband Derwood Cable in 1960 and had 4 more children. She became one of the early women pioneers in the Data Processing/Information Technology Management field. She wrote a textbook and taught college courses in RPG programming. She received her Bachelor's degree from Cal State University, Northridge in 1978. Doris married Robert Peek in 1984. She was passionate about reading, traveling, Dixieland Jazz and keeping everyone, friends and family, informed via a family letter she published monthly.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and strong businesswoman. Doris is survived by 8 of her 9 children, 14 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
