Mary Jane (Nicely) Russell passed Tuesday, September 12, 2023 in her home.

She was born on July 24, 1937 in Advance, IN.

Shortly after graduating from New Winchester High School in 1955, she married Kyle Russell on May 21.

She was preceded in death by parents, Harry and Gertrude (Hughes) Nicely, and loving husband, James Kyle Russell; brothers, Harry, James, Don, and Dee Nicely; and her sister, Maxine (Nicely) Beck. Also preceding were grandson, Eric Goodnight, and great-grandson, Knox Miller.

She is survived by children, Theresa (Kyle) Goodnight, Lee (Cheryl) Russell, Cheryl (Brian) Clark, Mike (Beth) Russell; brother Charlie Nicely; and grandchildren, Chas (Alissa) Russell, Evan Blackmore, Brianna Goodnight Kushnir, Jennifer (Aaron) Clark Miller, Christopher Forrest, Jacob (Cass) Goodnight, Emily Collier, Chloee (Dan) Russell Schaefer, Jarred (Hannah) Russell; great-grandchildren, CJ Kushnir, Emma Kushnir, Josie Goodnight, Jackie Goodnight, Kameryn Collier, Bryton Collier, Chloe Keller, Ava Grace Miller, Gracie Russell, Cooper Russell, Riley Russell, Jaxson Russell, Hunter Schaefer, Fynnlee Schaefer, and Hutch Schaefer.

Mary Jane was employed at Hendricks County Courthouse for 40 years including two elected offices, two terms as County Clerk and two terms as County Auditor.

She was a member of North Salem Methodist Church since 1963.

Mary Jane will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an awesome woman who was admired and loved by many and will be greatly missed. Although we are heartbroken, we find comfort in knowing her smile and kindness touched so many.

Friends and family will gather at North Salem United Methodist Church on Monday, September 18, 2023, from 11:00 am, with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 pm. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Fairview Cemetery following the funeral service.
