Fred Russel Adams, 96, died and entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 12. 2016. He was born on the family farm near Charleston IL on September 5, 1919. He was the sixth of seven children born to Frances Elijah and Iva Elizabeth (Hutton) Adams.

Throughout his life he often talked of the unusual privilege he had as a child of spending one winter in FL and one in CA. The family of eight made both trips in a Model T and camped along the way. Farming was in his blood, and all his life he had a large garden and even raised enough boysenberries to sell some commercially. He was willing to tackle any construction project and lived in three houses he built himself.

In 1939 Fred made the most important decision of his life. He repented of his sins and accepted God's offer of eternal life through Jesus Christ. In 1941 he joined the army and married Mary Louise Van Tassel.

After the war, he took advantage of the G. I. Bill and moved his family to Findlay, Ohio where he graduated with a B.A from Findlay College and a Masters of Divinity from Winebrenner Theological Seminary. Both schools are affiliated with the Churches of God General Conference. After his graduation Fred held a number of leadership positions in the organization at the state level. He was also active in establishing, building, improving and running summer camps for young people. Fred pastored churches in Sugar Ridge OH, Idaville IN, Santee CA and Fallbrook CA. The final 12 years of his church ministry in Fallbrook he initiated and directed a housing program for homeless mothers and children and a food and clothing distribution program for those in need.

Fred also taught in public schools in Idaville IN and Temecula CA. He received his Indiana teaching credential from Indiana University and later a MA and a CA credential from University of California in Riverside. He retired from teaching in 1981.

After more than 50 years of successful pastoral ministry he and Mary Louise moved to Duncan, OK. In 2002. Mary Louise died in 2009. Fred moved to and has resided in Lakeside, CA with his daughter since 2011.

Fred is survived by his eight loving children and their spouses and families: Joan Adams of Santa Clarita, CA, David Adams of Lafayette, IN, Ruth Franco of Menifee, CA, Lydia Lucero of Aguana, CA, Mary Jeane Chappell of Lakeside, CA, Stephen Adams of Mountain Home AR, Judy Nolt of Indian Head PA, and Mark Adams of Duncan OK. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held, July 16, 2016 at the El Cajon Church of the Nazarene at 1123 N Mollison. El Cajon, CA 92021. Burial will be later near his parents, his siblings, his wife and their infant son at Hurricane Cemetery in Illinois.
