Helton Rutherford Walker, son of Elijah Walker and Matilda (McMurray) Walker, founded and was the first pastor of Walker Chapel. He donated the land for the cemetery which is across the road where he, his wife Esther Elizabeth Thornton and many Walker descendants are buried.

Helton enlisted for CSA service on 12/9/1861, becoming part of the 48th "Voorhies" Reg (B & G), Tennessee Volunteers, on 12/17. He was taken captive at Ft. Donelson on 2/16/1862. Helton was fortunate in his early release as part of a successful prisoner exchange, and served the Confederacy for the duration of the war. He mustered out on February 20, 1865.

Father of Eudocia (my great-grandmother), William, Thomas, Mary, Sarah, Bedy, Coantha, Martha, Robert, Helton, Theodore and Minnie.
