Henry Clayton Griffin was born on September 26, 1903 in Samson, Geneva County, Alabama to Thomas Leonard Griffin (1880-1924) and Lizzie Drusie (Griffin) Griffin (1888-1913). Henry Clayton was the eldest of four children born to the couple during their marriage together.

Henry Clayton Griffin was married to Georgia Pearl Reaves (1902-1943) on March 6, 1927 in Walton County, Florida. Henry and Georgia had three children together during their marriage together. Following the death of his wife, Georgia Pearl, Henry Clayton was married to Lula Bell Wiggins on October 9, 1943 in Escambia County, Florida.

Henry Clayton Griffin was registered with the U. S. World War II Draft on February 16, 1942. Henry was working for Us Government Fort Barrancas and was 38 years old. He was 5 foot 9 inches tall, weighed 150 pounds with a ruddy complexion, brown hair and grey eyes.
