Survivors include three sons, Craig and Drier Blythe, his wife Elaine of Springville, David and his wife Deb of Mount Vernon, and Bob and his wife Polly of Mount Vernon; seven grandchildren, Michele Blythe and her husband Gabe Winslow of The Woodlands, Texas, Daniel of Milwaukee, Wis., Jennifer and Erin of Mount Vernon, and Robbie, Lisa, and Chiara of Mount Vernon; two sisters, Dorothy Kuchel of
Mechanicsville and Esther Henricksen of Bennett; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents, two brothers and a sister. Darlene was born Aug. 28, 1933, in rural Tipton, to Hugo and Sophie Stolte. She graduated from Martelle High School. Darlene married James Blythe, July 8,1951, at Stanwood. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Mount Vernon. Darlene and her family farmed near Martelle for many years, retiring from farming in 1990. She
worked as a cook at Washington Elementary in Mount Vernon, and as a waitress at Gwen's Restaurant in Lisbon, retiring from the school in 1999 and Gwen's in 2003. She was also a member of the Martelle Century
Club. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be greatly missed. A memorial fund has been established. (The Sun Thursday , August 12th, 2004)
