Hw was a native of Gaston County. He was born to the late Forrest & Geneva Champion.

Jerry was a member of Crowders Mountain Baptist Church in Kings Mountain. He had worked at Cinderella Knitting and Armtech. Jerry was also a veteran of the US Army.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Johnny William Champion; brothers, Richard Allen Champion, Andy Eugene Champion; sister, Sandra Champion Monroe; daughter in law, Judy Champion.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Georgia Ann Monroe Champion; sons, Michael Champion, David Wayne Champion and fiancé Sandra Phillips; six grandchildren, Amber Elliott, Kyle Champion, Katie Champion, Karissa and Marissa Phillips, Shelly Costner; six great-grandchildren, Grayson Champion, Sailor Wayne Cable, Yelena Elliott, Emily McDonald, McKenzie Cheere, Dean Cheere.
