Visitation for Newel "Sonny" Adams will be from 9 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

The family will have a graveside service at a later date.

Newel "Sonny" Adams, 78, of Lawton, Oklahoma passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, September 19, 2023 in Lawton. He was born May 23, 1945 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Jewel G. and Bertha L. (Monroe) Adams. He grew up in Lawton and graduated from Lawton High School in 1963. He played shortstop on the 1962 Wolverine state championship baseball team. Sonny married DiAnn Gage on July 2, 1976 in Lawton. DiAnn passed away November 22, 2020. Sonny spent most of his life working retail, beginning at Herb's Food Stores in Lawton working as a manager followed by a career with Proctor and Gamble as a sales associate where he later retired. Sonny loved sports and anything outdoors. He was an AVID bass fisherman who fished many tournaments winning many titles. He enjoyed his time fishing and playing golf at the Lawton Municipal Golf Course with many of his lifelong friends from the Lawton area. Sonny looked forward to eating lunch with many of his friends in Lawton, especially Derald Ahlschlager. Once they finished lunch Sonny and Derald would drive around Lawton to various places they enjoyed going to in their lifetime. Sonny was a great father, grandfather, and great grandfather loving his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren very much. Sonny was a treasure to his family and friends in Lawton and will be missed very much.

He is survived by his five children, Sherri Wilkerson Adams of Shreveport, Louisiana, Rhonda Manning and husband John of Scottsdale, Arizona, Mark Adams and wife Sherri of Sterling, Oklahoma, Shellie Harden and husband Willie of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Paula Rocha of Cache, Oklahoma, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, one brother, Harvey Adams of Elgin, Oklahoma, and many other family members.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, Jewell Dean Hyder and Dorothy Rush and husband Jim Rush.
