RIDGEWAY, VA.- Caleb W. "Ace" Adkins, 74, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, Va.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Pat B. Tony officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway.

He was born on April 18, 1930, in Salem, Va., the son of the late Charles Edward Adkins and Mrs. Ethel Radford Adkins of Eden, N.C.. A graduate of Draper High School, and Phieffer College, Mr. Adkins served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was a retired supervisor with 35 years of service at DuPont. He was a member of the Town Council of Ridgeway for 18 years, the vice-president and chairman of the scholarship committee of the Ridgeway Ruritan Club, a VFW member and a volunteer for over 20 years with the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. An avid golfer and member of Lynwood Golf Club, he registered eight holes in one. Adkins was instrumental in the installation of the first traffic light in Ridgeway. He was a member of Ridgeway United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the trustees, chairman of the finance committee and church treasurer.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Maurice Adkins.

In addition to his mother, surviving are his wife, Lorna Garrett Adkins of Ridgeway; his daughter, Lynn A. Moreau of Richmond, Va.; brother, Melvin Adkins; three step grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; four nieces and three nephews.
